Natural Pathways of Soybean Rust to North America

Rust Pathways U.S. Map -- There are several natural pathways for the
introduction of Asian Soybean Rust into the United States. An airborne
transmission of rust could originate from infected areas in Africa or the
northern reaches of South America. Natural wind currents or a hurricane could
uplift spores and carry them across the Atlantic Ocean, the Caribbean Sea or
Gulf of Mexico, or the spores could hop from place to place from south to north
on what scientists call a "land bridge."
